Optimizing the downhole placement of a tubing anchor in a deviated and/or horizontal well requires the careful balancing of two seemingly opposed principles: Running the anchor as deep as possible to maximize efficiency versus not placing it at an angle that could compromise its effectiveness. This session will highlight a recent finite element analysis study that confirms the optimal placement of a TAC within a deviated and/or horizontal well. The study examines the structural stress placed on a tubing anchor when set at various angles and as it traverses multiple well deviations. The results will help engineers determine the optimal positioning of a TAC within their downhole production string.
